Recently, there’s been a definite shift in the type of content required to try and attract your right-fit customers on social media. With platforms such as Instagram now favouring video content, Reels in particular, over any other!
And whether you like it or not, you HAVE to give in to the latest trends to beat the algorithm and get seen on peoples’ feeds.
Unfortunately, you can no longer rely on posting pretty pictures and graphics, hoping this will get you the reach you want (and need) to grow your business.
What does the data say?
Did you know three out of four people watch online videos EVERY week, and 55% view online videos every single day?!
Nearly three-quarters of customers also say they’d rather learn about a product or service through video. Interesting stats, hey?!
Adam Moserri, Head of Instagram, recently confirmed via his social channels that Instagram is “… no longer a photo-sharing app.”
In his clip, he explained that the app would start experimenting with different types of videos over the next six months, such as full screen, immersive, entertaining, and mobile-first videos. He also explicitly acknowledged TikTok and YouTube as competition.
Crikey, the phenomenon that is TikTok seems to have completely turned social media on its head!
When you look at the numbers, it’s no surprise, really. In 2021, TikTok was the most downloaded app, with 656 million downloads! That’s over 100 million downloads MORE than the runner-up, Instagram. It’s also the third year in a row that TikTok has held the number-one spot.
It’s difficult to argue with stats, but it doesn’t mean it’s an easy pill to swallow!
I get it. Creating video content can seem massively scary, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a really dynamic and creative way of getting across your business ethos, personality and authenticity.
It encourages you to think outside the box and bring character into your posts.
If you struggle or don’t have time to think outside of the box, that’s where a social media manager can undoubtedly come in handy and be your cheerleader.
There’s a certain type of personality who feel completely comfortable jumping in front of a camera and making videos. But I think most of us just don’t have that in our DNA!
Don’t panic though! Here are 11 ideas for videos you can make quickly and easily, and what’s more, you don’t even have to be on them if you don’t want to!

Finding trending sounds on Instagram Reels
To get your videos seen by more people, it’s also worth checking out trending audios. You can do this in a few different ways, including:
- Manual search. This can take a bit of time and patience! Open up Instagram, and scroll the Reels Explore page. If you see the trending arrow in the bottom left-hand corner, you know the song is trending. If you click on the song, you’ll see where it comes from and how many Reels have used it. You can then save the audio and come back to it later on or click the ‘Use Audio’ button right away.
- Find weekly Reels blogs. Instead of manually searching for Reels, teams of social media experts check out what’s hot and how you can incorporate them into your strategy.
- Creators Weekly Trend Report. Every week they share the top Instagram Reels trends, general Instagram tips, facts about the algorithm and valuable hacks.
- TikTok. Ironic, I know! What’s trending on TikTok usually trends on Instagram a week or two later. Scroll through what’s trending on TikTok’s Discover page, or type trending sounds in the search bar and filter for the current week. You can then search for the audio on Instagram to see if it’s been featured in any Reels there.
- Follow other trending reels on Instagram
