There seems to be something in the air at the moment. I am speaking to many clients, and business owners who have real INTENTION right now, and I am LOVING it. People seem to show the urge to want to go full steam ahead into the 2023. I’m totally on board with that!
This intention could be to grow professionally, ditch bad habits, re-position your business or offers, or learn new things.
It isn’t always massive changes we want to realise either. Instead, it’s usually those small incremental changes to our business and how we’re marketing ourselves.
And the great news is that small steps can yield BIG results. And I’m here to show you how.
Let’s get a plan in place, so you can smash your social media marketing this year!
If this feels downright daunting, you don’t have a clue where to start with your social media, or you just want to crawl under a rock, please don’t panic.
In this blog, I’ll share my top tips on how to get started with your social media presence or how to reassess it.
Let’s get cracking!
What are your goals?
Before you can develop a meaningful plan for your different social media channels, you need to figure out what you want to achieve from them.
Once that clear vision is in place, you can then work backwards with tangible actions. Because what you want to achieve affects not only what you post but also where you post it. (More on that later on.)
Who are you speaking to with your content?
You’ve heard the phrase, “When you speak to everyone. You’re speaking to no one.”?
And it’s too true!
So often, people try to talk to everyone and end up resonating with no one.
And this is why, if you haven’t done it already, it’s so important to build an avatar of your ideal client.
Eek! What on earth is one of those, I hear you ask?
In a nutshell, it’s a visualisation of your dream client or customer.
- Are they male or female?
- How old are they?
- What do they do for a job?
- Where do they live?
- What solutions do they need in their life?
To make the exercise fun, you can even give each ideal client avatar a name to help you visualise them and bring them to life!
Once you know WHO you’re speaking to, it becomes a whole lot easier to figure out where they hang out. And that’s where YOU need to be!
Nail your branding
How often have you put a book down in a shop because it doesn’t look that exciting from the front cover?
How often have you walked past a business and judged it based on its shop window?
Yep? Me too! There’s no judgment here.
But you need to make sure YOUR virtual front cover looks IRRESISTABLE! So people want to step into your world and find out more about you.
So, ask yourself… how do you want to come across on social media?
Think about your tone of voice, your imagery, your logo, and your brand colours.
Check out the competition
If you’re feeling a little uncertain about what I’ve spoken about so far, an easy way to work out where and what you should be up to on social media is by having a little snoop on your competition!
- Find out where they’re targeting their social media efforts.
- What first impressions do they give?
- What looks engaging?
- What aren’t they doing so well at?
This can help inform YOUR plan and reduce wasted effort or silly mistakes.
Social media platforms… your cheat sheet!
If you’re not sure why you’re hanging out on social media, you might be experiencing one or both of these problems…
- You may be spending your time and effort in the wrong places.
- Your messaging may be way off the mark!
Have you ever really stopped to think about what each social media platform is about and what it’s useful for?
Well, let I’ve pulled together a quick summary to help you with that!
LinkedIn. Fantastic for networking, business news and developing your business knowledge.
Facebook. Helpful for building brand connection and relationships with your audience.
Twitter. Great for kick-starting conversations and maintaining PR.
Instagram. Ideal for getting your products or services in front of a new audience, building relationships, and solving problems through ‘how to’ Reels or product demos.
TikTok. Perfect for building your community.
The key is to work out which channels are best for YOUR business and how many are manageable going forward.
Never mind what everyone else is doing.
Think about whether YOU want to spread yourself too thin and market your business poorly. (I’m guessing not!)
Or choose one or two channels which are a good fit for you, and share high-quality content consistently. I know which I’d choose!
